Ripponpet Parish Submits Memorandum to Prime Minister Voicing Concerns Over FCRA Amendment Bill
- 9/Jul/2026
Setting a proactive precedent, the members of the Ripponpet Parish became the first under its forane to officially submit a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India, expressing grave concerns regarding the newly proposed FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) Amendment Bill 2026. The memorandum was presented directly to the District Collector by a delegation led by Fr. Benoy Manickathukunnel MCBS. Reflecting a unanimous stance, the memorandum was signed by all members of the Ripponpet Parish, underscoring the community's deep anxiety regarding the future of minority welfare and social initiatives. With this submission, Ripponpet has distinction as the first forane parish in the diocese to successfully complete and submit the appeal. The initiative follows a nationwide directive from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), which recently urged all parishes across the country to sign and submit similar memorandums to the Prime Minister through local Collectors or legislative assembly members. The core content of the memorandum focuses heavily on the challenges the Christian minority community anticipates facing under the stringent provisions of the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill 2026, particularly regarding its potential impact on charitable, educational, and social development projects.
